Summary
Electoral Commission Strategy and Policy Statement Baroness Penn moved that the draft Strategy and Policy Statement laid before the House on 14 December 2023 be approved. Then Lord Khan of Burnley moved, as an amendment to the original motion, at end to insert “but that this House regrets that the draft Strategy and Policy Statement has been laid, despite significant concerns raised by the Speaker’s Committee, the Electoral Commission, and the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Select Committee, during the statutory consultation process, and the finding by the Speaker’s Committee that the statement as drafted is “not fit for purpose and inconsistent with the Commission’s role as an independent regulator"”. After debate, the amendment was agreed to (see division 2). Then the original motion, as amended, was agreed to.
