Summary
Citizens’ Rights (Application Deadline and Temporary Protection) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 Baroness Williams of Trafford moved that the draft Regulations laid before the House on 21 September 2020 be approved. Then Baroness Hamwee moved, as an amendment to the above motion, to leave out from “that” to the end and to insert “this House declines to approve the draft Regulations because the so-called “grace period” of six months from 1 January 2021 for applications to the EU Settlement Scheme does not replicate the provisions which apply during the implementation period.” After debate, the amendment was disagreed to (see division 1). Then Lord Rosser moved, as an amendment to the motion, at end to insert “but that this House regrets that the draft Regulations do not provide clear statutory protection during the “grace period” for all European Economic Area and Swiss nationals and their family members who are eligible for the EU Settlement Scheme." The amendment was agreed to (see division 2). Then the original motion, as amended, was agreed to.
