5 Health: dementia A question was asked by Baroness Greengross and answered by Earl Howe.

6 Immigration A question was asked by Lord Corbett of Castle Vale and answered by Baroness Neville-Jones.

7 Prostitution A question was asked by Lord Avebury, on behalf of Lord Dholakia, and answered by Lord McNally.

8 Hybrid Instruments The Chairman of Committees moved that a Select Committee be appointed to consider hybrid instruments and that, as proposed by the Committee of Selection, the following members together with the Chairman of Committees be appointed to the Committee:

9 Standing Orders (Private Bills) The Chairman of Committees moved that a Select Committee on the Standing Orders relating to private bills be appointed and that, as proposed by the Committee of Selection, the following members together with the Chairman of Committees be appointed to the Committee:

10 Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit Limited (PARBUL) The Chairman of Committees moved that, as proposed by the Committee of Selection, the following members be appointed to the Board of the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit Limited (PARBUL):

  1. B Bonham-Carter of Yarnbury
  2. L Brabazon of Tara
  3. L Naseby
  4. L Paul.

The motion was agreed to.

11 Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) The Chairman of Committees moved that, as proposed by the Committee of Selection, the following Lords be appointed to the Board of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST):

  1. L Oxburgh
  2. L Sutherland of Houndwood
  3. L Taylor of Warwick
  4. L Winston.

The motion was agreed to.

12 Queen’s Speech The debate was resumed on the motion that a Humble Address be presented to Her Majesty as follows—

“Most Gracious Sovereign,

We, Your Majesty’s most dutiful and loyal subjects, the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, beg leave to thank Your Majesty for the most gracious Speech which Your Majesty has addressed to both Houses of Parliament.”

After further debate, the motion was agreed to nemine dissentiente, and the Lord Chamberlain was ordered to present the Address to Her Majesty.

13 Cumbria: shootings Baroness Neville-Jones repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

The House adjourned at 7.46pm until Monday 7 June at 2.30pm.
