Private Business

2 Leeds City Council Bill A message was brought from the Commons that they have considered the Lords Message of 10 June and have made the following order:

That the promoters of the Leeds City Council Bill, which was originally introduced in this House in Session 2007–08 on 22 January 2008, may have leave to proceed with the Bill in the current Session according to the provisions of Private Business Standing Order 188B (Revival of bills).

3 Reading Borough Council Bill A message was brought from the Commons that they have considered the Lords Message of 10 June and have made the following order:

That the promoters of the Reading Borough Council Bill, which was originally introduced in this House in Session 2007–08 on 22 January 2008, may have leave to proceed with the Bill in the current Session according to the provisions of Private Business Standing Order 188B (Revival of bills).

Public Business

4 Queen's Speech The Lord Chamberlain, Earl Peel, delivered Her Majesty’s reply to the Address of 3 June, as follows:

I have received with great satisfaction the dutiful and loyal expression of your thanks for the speech with which I opened the present Session of Parliament.

5 National Assembly for Wales: referendum A question was asked by Lord Livsey of Talgarth and answered by Lord Wallace of Tankerness.

6 First aid A question was asked by Lord Harrison and answered by Earl Howe.

7 Loan companies: interest rates A question was asked by Baroness Scott of Needham Market and answered by Baroness Wilcox.

8 Foxes A question was asked by Baroness Sharples and answered by Lord Henley.

9 Business of the House Lord Strathclyde moved that the debates on the motions in the names of Lord Sugar and Lord Corbett of Castle Vale set down for today shall each be limited to 2½ hours. The motion was agreed to.

10 Small and medium-sized enterprises: Government policy (2½-hourdebate) Lord Sugar moved for papers relating to the effect of the Government’s policies, such as proposals for capital gains tax, on entrepreneurship and on small and medium-sized enterprises. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

11 Public expenditure: review of commitments Lord Sassoon repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

12 Banking reform Lord Sassoon repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

13 Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970: 40th anniversary (2½-hour debate) Lord Corbett of Castle Vale moved for papers relating to the 40th anniversary of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

The House adjourned at 5.33pm until Monday 21 June at 2.30pm.
