1 Lord Beecham Sir Jeremy Hugh Beecham, Knight, having been created Baron Beecham, of Benwell and Newcastle upon Tyne in the County of Tyne and Wear, for life by Letters Patent dated 20 July 2010, was introduced between Lord Walton of Detchant and Lord Cunningham of Felling, took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct. (See Appendix 1)

2 Lord Browne of Ladyton The Rt Hon Desmond Henry Browne, having been created Baron Browne of Ladyton, of Ladyton in Ayrshire and Arran, for life by Letters Patent dated 22 July 2010, was introduced between Baroness Scotland of Asthal and Lord Foulkes of Cumnock, took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct. (See Appendix 2)

3 House of Lords Journals The 242nd volume of the Journals (Session 2008–09), with an index, was laid on the Table by the Clerk of the Parliaments.

13 Academies Bill [HL] The bill was returned from the Commons with a privilege amendment. The amendment was agreed to.

14 Referendum (European Union) Bill [HL] Lord Willoughby de Broke presented a bill to make provision for the holding of a referendum in the United Kingdom on the United Kingdom’s continued membership of the European Union. It was read a first time and ordered to be printed. (HL Bill 18)

15 Pensions Regulator (Contribution Notices) (Sum Specified following Transfer) Regulations 2010 Lord Freud moved that the draft Regulations laid before the House on 1 March be approved. The motion was agreed to.

16 Occupational Pension Schemes (Levies) (Amendment) Regulations 2010 Lord Freud moved that the draft Regulations laid before the House on 2 March be approved. The motion was agreed to.

17 Privileges and Conduct The Chairman of Committees moved that the Report from the Select Committee on Mr Trevor Phillips: Allegation of Contempt (First Report, HL Paper 15) be agreed to. After debate, the motion was agreed to.

18 Energy: annual statement Lord Marland repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

19 Terrorist Asset-Freezing etc. Bill [HL] Lord Sassoon moved that the bill be now read a second time. After debate, the motion was agreed to and the bill was committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
