Journal for 22 December 2010

Prayers were read by the Lord Bishop of Derby.

1 Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia Fiona Sara Shackleton, LVO, having been created Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia, of Belgravia in the City of Westminster, for life by Letters Patent dated in the forenoon of 21 December 2010, was introduced between Lord Harris of Peckham and Lord Sassoon, took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct. (See Appendix 1)

2 Baroness Doocey Elizabeth Deirdre Doocey, OBE, having been created Baroness Doocey, of Hampton in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, for life by Letters Patent dated in the afternoon of 21 December 2010, was introduced between Baroness Harris of Richmond and Lord Oakeshott of Seagrove Bay, made and subscribed the solemn affirmation and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct. (See Appendix 2)

3 Oath David John Lord Sainsbury of Turville took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct.

Public Business

4 Public expenditure: investment in science A question was asked by Baroness Jones of Whitchurch and answered by Baroness Wilcox.

5 Education: language assistants A question was asked by Baroness Coussins and answered by Lord Hill of Oareford.

6 European Union: Common Fisheries Policy A question was asked by Lord Eden of Winton and answered by Lord Henley.

7 Equality Act 2010 A question was asked by Lord Avebury and answered by Baroness Verma.

8 Export Control (Amendment) (No. 3) Order 2010 Baroness Wilcox moved that the draft Order laid before the House on 29 November be approved. The motion was agreed to.

9 Crime (International Co-operation) Act 2003 (Designation of Participating Countries) (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) (No. 2) Order 2010 Lord Wallace of Saltaire moved that the draft Order laid before the House on 29 November be approved. The motion was agreed to.

10 Energy Bill [HL] Lord Marland moved that the bill be now read a second time. After debate, the motion was agreed to and the bill was committed to a Grand Committee.

The House adjourned at 3.55pm until Monday 10 January at 2.15pm.
