Prayers were read by the Lord Bishop of Hereford.

1 Lord Magan of Castletown George Morgan Magan, Esquire, having been created Baron Magan of Castletown, of Kensington in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, for life by Letters Patent dated in the forenoon of 25 January 2011, was introduced between Lord Northbrook and Lord Howard of Rising, took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct. (See Appendix 1)

2 Lord Grade of Yarmouth Michael Ian Grade, Esquire, CBE, having been created Baron Grade of Yarmouth, of Yarmouth in the County of Isle of Wight, for life by Letters Patent dated in the afternoon of 25 January 2011, was introduced between Baroness Sharples and Baroness Buscombe, took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct. (See Appendix 2)

3 Baroness Jenkin of Kennington Anne Caroline Jenkin, having been created Baroness Jenkin of Kennington, of Hatfield Peverel in the County of Essex, for life by Letters Patent dated in the forenoon of 26 January 2011, was introduced between Lord Jenkin of Roding and Baroness Shephard of Northwold, took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct. (See Appendix 3)

4 Defra: disease outbreaks A question was asked by the Countess of Mar and answered by Lord Henley.

5 Zimbabwe A question was asked by Lord St John of Bletso and answered by Lord Howell of Guildford.

6 Airlines: snow and ice A question was asked by Lord Dubs and answered by Earl Attlee.

7 Telephone hacking A question was asked by Lord Fowler and answered by Lord Wallace of Saltaire.

8 Business of the House Lord Strathclyde moved that the debate on the motion in the name of Lord King of Bridgwater set down for today shall be limited to 2 hours and that in the name of Viscount Younger of Leckie to 3 hours. The motion was agreed to.

9 Business of the House Lord Strathclyde moved that leave be given to advance the Report stage of the Budget Responsibility and National Audit Bill [HL] from Tuesday 1 February to Monday 31 January. The motion was agreed to.

10 Armed forces: post-service welfare (2-hour debate) Lord King of Bridgwater moved for papers relating to physical and mental rehabilitation of military veterans and their post-service welfare. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

11 Tourism (3-hour debate) Viscount Younger of Leckie moved for papers relating to the value of tourism to the United Kingdom economy. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

12 Defence: military covenant A question was asked by the Lord Bishop of Wakefield and, after debate, answered by Lord Astor of Hever.

The House adjourned at 5.42pm until Monday 31 January at 2.15pm.
