Prayers were read by the Lord Bishop of Ripon and Leeds.

1 Baroness Brinton Sarah Virginia Brinton, having been created Baroness Brinton, of Kenardington in the County of Kent, for life by Letters Patent dated in the afternoon of 4 February 2011, was introduced between Lord Dholakia and Baroness Scott of Needham Market, took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct. (See Appendix)

Public Business

2 Children: commercialisation A question was asked by the Lord Bishop of Ripon and Leeds and answered by Lord Hill of Oareford.

3 Trees: Sudden Oak Death A question was asked by Lord Greaves and answered by Lord Henley.

4 Democratic Republic of Congo A question was asked by Lord Chidgey and answered by Lord Wallace of Saltaire.

5 Pope Benedict XVI: state visit funding A question was asked by Baroness Kinnock of Holyhead and answered by Lord Howell of Guildford.

6 Role of marriage (Balloted debate) The Lord Bishop of Chester moved for papers relating to the role of marriage and marriage support in British society 12 years after the report on Funding for Marriage Support by Sir Graham Hart. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

7 NATO (Balloted debate) Lord Addington moved for papers relating to the future of NATO and changing relations within its membership. After debate, the motion was withdrawn.

8 Radioactive waste management (S&T Report) Lord Broers moved that this House takes note of the Report of the Science and Technology Committee on Radioactive Waste Management: a further update (2nd Report, Session 2009–10, HL Paper 95). After debate, the motion was agreed to.
