1 Lord Gould of Brookwood The Lord Speaker informed the House that Lord Gould of Brookwood, a member of the House, had died on 6 November 2011.

2 Barony of Ampthill in the Peerage of the United Kingdom The Lord Chancellor reported that David Whitney Erskine Russell had established his succession to the Barony of Ampthill. The Clerk of the Parliaments was accordingly directed to enter Lord Ampthill on the register of hereditary peers maintained under Standing Order 10(5).

Baroness Knight of Collingtree, Chairman of the Select Committee, reported that, in accordance with Private Business Standing Order 108 (Adjournment of committee on opposed bill), the Committee had adjourned until Wednesday 9 November, that being the next date that the Committee can meet.

7 Housing: landlord and tenant legislation A question was asked by Baroness Gardner of Parkes and answered by Baroness Hanham.

8 Business of the House Lord Strathclyde moved that leave be given to advance the Third Reading of the Education Bill, which had been set down for 14 November, to 9 November. The motion was agreed to.

9 Health and Social Care Bill The bill was further considered in Committee, beginning with amendment 13. The House resumed.

10 UK Border Agency Lord Henley repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

11 Health and Social Care Bill The bill was further considered in Committee, beginning with amendment 20. The House resumed.

12 Children: secure children's homes A question was asked by Baroness Linklater of Butterstone and, after debate, answered by Lord McNally.

13 Health and Social Care Bill The bill was further considered in Committee, beginning with amendment 24. The House resumed after amendment 34.
