5 United Kingdom: oil refinery capacity A question was asked by Baroness Smith of Basildon and answered by Baroness Stowell of Beeston.
6 Business of the House Lord Strathclyde moved that the debates on the motions in the names of Baroness Scott of Needham Market and Baroness Kramer set down for today shall each be limited to 2½ hours. The motion was agreed to.
7 Voluntary sector and social enterprise (2½-hour debate) Baroness Scott of Needham Market moved that this House takes note of the role of the voluntary sector and social enterprise. After debate, the motion was agreed to.

8 Draft Communications Data Bill A message was brought from the Commons that they concur with the resolution of this House of 28 May relating to a Joint Committee to consider the draft Communications Data Bill presented to both Houses on 14 June and that they have made the following orders:
That a Select Committee of six Members be appointed to join with the Committee appointed by the Lords to consider the draft Communications Data Bill;
That the Committee should report by 30 November 2012;
That the Committee shall have power—
(i) to send for persons, papers and records,
(ii) to sit notwithstanding any adjournment of the House,
(iii) to report from time to time,
(iv) to appoint specialist advisers, and
(v) to adjourn from place to place within the United Kingdom.
9 Economy: growth (2½-hour debate) Baroness Kramer moved that this House takes note of the importance of the Government's growth strategy for the United Kingdom economy. After debate, the motion was agreed to.
