Prayers were read by the Lord Bishop of Birmingham.

1 The Lord Bishop of Worcester John Geoffrey Lord Bishop of Worcester was introduced between the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury and the Lord Bishop of Birmingham, took and subscribed the oath and signed an undertaking to abide by the Code of Conduct.

2 Leave of Absence Leave of absence was granted to the following members of the House for the remainder of this Parliament:

Lord Black of Crossharbour

Lord Griffiths

Lord Mason of Barnsley

Lord Molyneaux of Killead

The Earl of Snowdon.

Private Business

3 Rookery South (Resource Recovery Facility) Order 2011 The Chairman of Committees reported that he had appointed the following Lords to form the Committee to join with a Committee appointed by the Commons as the Joint Committee to which the Petitions of General Objection and Petitions of Amendment against the Rookery South (Resource Recovery Facility) Order 2011 stand referred:

  1. L Dear
  2. L Faulkner of Worcester
  3. L Geddes;

It was ordered that the Committee have power to agree with the Committee appointed by the Commons in the appointment of a Chairman and that a message be sent to the Commons.

4 Transport: Isles of Scilly ferry link A question was asked by Lord Berkeley and answered by Earl Attlee.

5 Women: training and upskilling A question was asked by Baroness Prosser and answered by Baroness Wilcox.

6 Government: procurement A question was asked by Lord Haskel and answered by Baroness Verma.

7 Education: special educational needs A question was asked by Lord Touhig and answered by Lord Hill of Oareford.

8 Crime and Courts Bill [HL] The bill was further considered in Committee. Amendment 64 was considered. The House resumed.

9 G20 summit Lord Strathclyde repeated a ministerial statement made in the House of Commons.

10 Crime and Courts Bill [HL] The bill was further considered in Committee, beginning with amendment 65. Amendments were agreed to. The House resumed after amendment 116.
